The Yellow Canoe Cafe is a friendly restaurant in Merrickville Ontario that specializes in tasty lunches and desserts. All the food is made fresh in our kitchen, using local ingredients wherever possible.
We offer a broad range of lunch choices including fresh, made to order sandwiches, daily soup choices, a daily hot frittata special, and now savoury scones served with soup. Our desserts include Susan's famous Apple Pie and Date Squares, plus Carrot Cake, Chocolate Raspberry Coffee Cake, Raisin Scones (served with jam & whipped cream), and fresh baked cookies.
Our beverage choices include wine, beer, and sangria, a wide choice of teas, coffee, espresso, cappuccino, & latte, and soft drinks & juices.
Our goal is to deliver food that satisfies both the body and the soul, in a friendly, relaxed environment. Our shaded patio overlooks the Rideau Canal and Merrickville Locks
We’re excited to have confirmed two great evenings, featuring renowned musicians & a fabulous three-course dinner for $65 inclusive. Building on our success from our evenings with Nathan Rogers & Lynn Miles we can now announce that Rick Fines and Valdy are booked to play at the cafe.
We'll be serving another of our amazing three course set menu meals featuring, locally sourced ingredients wherever possible. We'll post it as soon as it's finalized.
Doors open at 6pm, we'll serve appetizers and the main course, and then enjoy the first set, followed by dessert & more music.
Advance reservations & a $30 deposit are required. All our previous concerts have been truly special evenings and have sold out. Stay tuned for more events too.
We're excited to let you know that we finally have a date for the Rick Fines (www.RickFines.com) Dinner Concert we've been talking about since the spring. Rick is an amazing acoustic blues performer who you may also know from Jackson Delta in the 80’s. Andrew's really excited to have Rick play at the cafe as he's been one of his favorite acoustic blues artists since first hearing him 20+ years ago, & enjoying a great set at a past Ottawa Folk Festival. This is a show not to be missed.
We jumped at the chance to have Canadian folk legend Valdy (www.Valdy.com) play at the café for a rare intimate show. This is a Wednesday evening, but how often do you get a chance to see someone like Valdy in such a cozy spot as the Yellow Canoe? We saw Valdy play at the Ottawa Folk Festival one afternoon (with Gowan in fact!) and it was an amazing performance.
Given the timing, we’re planning a Valentines Day menu to make this an extra special evening.
We’re excited to be showcasing local artist Susan Foley’s hand painted floor cloths on our new tables. We held a launch Vernissage in the spring and got to enjoy her larger pieces on the walls for this weekend. Find out more about “Art for Floors & Windows” online at EmeraldCanvas.ca. Our new tables increase our capacity & efficiency, so there’s less likely to be a wait for lunch on a busy day.
Our Garden Patio is a great place to enjoy lunch, afternoon tea & dessert, or a drink with a cheese and fruit plate. Our covered section provides nice shade on sunny days and also means you don't have to be chased inside by a bit of rain.
The Yellow Canoe can now offer any of our famous desserts to take home.
Please call ahead to place your order and we'll make it fresh for you.
